Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy Director: Michael Morris Featuring:Renée Zellweger, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall Language: English Running Time: 124 min Overview: Bridget Jones is back. Our hapless heroine is sharper, wiser and funnier. She navigates life as a widow and single mum with the help of her family, friends, and former lover, Daniel. Back to work and on the apps, she's pursued by a younger man and maybe - just maybe - her son's science teacher. It’s taken 9 years for this sequel to appear and this reunion with author Helen Fielding’s creation is much more satisfying than the previous films. The screenplay (by Fielding, Dan Mazer, and Abi Morgan) sets a slightly mournful tone for the picture, giving it a pleasant softness between expected bits of slapstick and humiliation as Bridget confronts all the losses in her life and deals with new adventures in romance. “Mad About the Boy” is quite amusing and nicely balanced by director Michael Morris, and it’s a treat to see star Renee Zellweger return to screens (six years after her Oscar-winning turn in “Judy”), backed by an outstanding supporting cast.

May's Film 9th Apr 2025:
Memoir of a Snail Director: Adam Elliot Featuring: Jacki Weaver, Sarah Snook, Charlotte Belsey Language: English Running Time: 95 min Overview: This award - winning film (12 wins and over 70 nominations from around the world) is not to be missed. It is a bittersweet memoir of a melancholic woman called Grace Pudel - a hoarder of snails, romance novels, and guinea pigs. Grace, voiced by Sarah Snook, tells her story with such beauty here that the overwhelming darkness in her life fades as her glass half full attitude gradually prevails. Beneath the melancholy, the story and style are so eccentric that Memoir of a Snail is genuinely funny in the face of repeated tragedy. One moment the film will be melancholy to the point of tear jerking, the next it’s laugh out loud funny. It is packed with ideas and themes with the elderly Pinky, Grace’s friend, brilliantly voiced by Jackie Weaver, provides much of the humour. Complimented by superb animation, Memoir of a Snail is, like the best of films, multi layered. Ultimately uplifting and life affirming it is an extraordinary film.
